Certification, Compliance, and Reference Partners


US Tile is fully committed to ensuring our products meet the standards we personally have set for superior sustainable roofing products. US Tile has partnered with a wide variety of industry leading organizations to help our customers quantify and understand the attributes and sustainable benefits of our products.


Cradle to Cradle: All US Tile roofing products manufactured in the US are certified by MBDC under Cradle to Cradle guidelines, and have passed the most rigid material requirements for environmental and human health in the industry. Criteria for certification include: mitigation of all harmful ingredients, product and material reutilization, energy and water usage as well as social fairness and corporate ethical standards. The USGBC recognizes the value of Cradle to Cradle products by awarding a special LEED point in the “Innovation and Design” category.


USGBC: The US Green Building Council developed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) as a guideline for the way buildings are designed, built and operated in a socially and environmentally responsible way. The LEED system awards points for many aspects of a building to quanlify projects for sustainable building recognition. US Tile offers a wide variety of LEED point opportunities other sloped roofing products on the market today can not match, including a special Innovation in Design point awarded for Cradle to Cradle product usage.


Energy Star: ENERGY STAR qualifies a wide variety of products (including roofing) based on their ability to save energy and minimize environmental impact. Roofing products that have a reflectance of greater than .25 are considered Energy Star compliant if they meet these standards over time. Testing information from indicates Energy Star roofing products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings to reduce peak cooling demand by 10–15 percent.


 
Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC): The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) sets the industry standard for cool roof systems and products designed to minimize the effect of solar energy on buildings. The CRRC rates products based on Solar Reflectance and Thermal Emittance measurements. These measurements are then combined in a formula to create a products Solar Emittance number for compliance agencies. Over 75% of US Tile product colors are CRRC Cool Roof compliant.


ICC-ES: ICC-ES is the United States’ leader in evaluating building products for compliance with code. A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES does technical evaluations of building products, components, methods, and materials. The evaluation process culminates with the issuance of reports on code compliance, which are made available free of charge to code officials, contractors, specifiers, architects, engineers, and anyone else with an interest in the building industry and construction. ICC-ES evaluation reports provide evidence that products and systems meet code requirements.
